New BTS - gigas gigas

Postby BlueTonguesOfSA » Sat Jan 04, 2014 2:49 pm

This will be the second Indo in my collection, he has very pretty coloration and contrast. He was given to me by someone in town that liked our facebook page. They chose to give him up because of his level of aggression, and when they reached out to the BTS community (on facebook) to hopefully find ways to tame him, they were met with much hostility from fellow BTS keepers.

I'm not looking to call anyone out publicly, but I do want to say that i'm disgusted by the situation. When someone reaches out for guidance, it needs to be provided maturely and politely. This person was only concerned about the health of the animal and was met with blame and shunned. This person has now, not just given up on BTS as pets, but given up on the BTS community of keepers and frankly i'm a little embarrassed.

Anyway, the animal looks to be in great health, and not THAT aggressive. At least, not as bad as one of my northerns. So, here are a couple quick pics. Sorry for the quality, but i'm no photographer, i'm a faux-tographer with an iPhone 5.

Is a shame when someone cops the pack mentality of abuse in those type of circumstances, seems to be all the rage on a lot of forums these days

Some people are terrified of blueys, what they class as aggressive may come off as reasonably mellow to others,no need to badh one for it though

You sure thats a male?

Glad it has found a new home, beautiful skink, looks in great shape to,hopefully previous owner still has faith with some in the tiliqua community

The previous owner had him sexed at the only reputable, that I know of, exotic vet in town.

It is always frustrating to hear that people who are genuinely seeking help are met with anger and criticism. I understand the dynamics that result in that situation, but it should still not happen.

There is a difference between ignorance and stupidity. Extremely intelligent and caring people can be ignorant about certain subjects. They simply need information in order to provide top notch care for their animals. Stupid people are those who already have the information, yet chose to ignore it. I wish we could do a better job distinguishing between the two as a community.

People often forget they asked such questions when they started out,its like because they were treated bad they feel they have graduated enough to do likewise to begginners

A couple of the aussie forums are shocking for it,its not jist a reptile thing either

The skink is gorgeous. It would pair beautifully with the adult LLL has for sale right now!

I wish the previous owner had come here for help. I'm sure he would not have been met with hostility
