BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

Ive had some hold back blotchies indoors since babies,3 year classes,ive recently popped them all outdoors,i didnt go out of my way to cool them but bulb blew in winter and i left it off for a few weeks,plus some just curl up away from heat anyways

I saw pursuits in spring,even 18 month olds were being chased but more so the bigger ones,but saw no mating attempts so thought nothing of it,a few are ballooning up now,and starting to witness the laboured breathing,only male big enough is a bluemountains 3 year old from scott,maybe another as well,a 2 year old vic alpine looks likely up the duff as does a bluemountains 2 year old,and i have a feeling at least one 3 year old bluemountains

Last season i brought a few adults in to try and breed ,best i got was slugs from one,this year i didnt even try and looks very promising,go figure

In the pic is a vic alpine and bluemountains alpine from not last season but one before,they will actually turn 2 in march,both there siblings are still quite small,theres a vic alpine sibling to big girl at bottom of pic

Do the Victorian Alpines grow as big as the blue mountains form?

The male vic alpines im not sure,my old boy is similar to one of my big old male lowlands but female vic alpines get pretty big,ill have to measure my old girl,shes well into the 50s and my largest blotch,some of the younger females are catching her as well,the one in above pic has out grown 3 bluemountains juvies,though onlu just pipping one of them,the other 2 i think are males so understandable,i dont grow mine overly fast and usually slow them down over winter,mine take usually 4 years to get to a breeding size,normally they are outside after there first winter though or i actually leave them out for first winter,which pretty much has them not feed for close to 6 months of a year

Do the different locales of the Blotcheds breed among their own locality, although put with different locales? Or do you not really care for locale specific animals? (not implying that doing so is wrong, just wondering if they breed with their own locale over a different)

If there cycles coincide they happily breed with any locale

I have my vic alpines and lowlands seperated,years ago when i just had big girl in my avatar and lowlands indoors she did have a couple of litters to a lowlands male, i still have a couple of them,ones a female thats bred twice,once to a lowlands male,still have one of those babies,and once to my dominant vic alpine male,dont have those babies anymore

The cage in these pics is my bluemountains cage,these young ones had been indoors until recently,holdbacks i was raising and hadnt got around to putting outside,i wasnt expecting any breeding,didnt purposley try cooling them,to be honest really didnt think they would try yet,there still not overly big,obviously big enough,3 of the vic alpines are tiny,you can see one in pic,one of last seasons

So in short yes they will happily interbreed,and no ,my goals keeping them locale specific,but yes i do have some that are muddied with other locales and looks like another litter on the way

I have my Alpines in with a couple of lowland males (couldn't bare to get rid of them) but in comparison the lowlands are tiny and are dominated by the Alpines in the breeding season. I've seen them latch onto one of my Alpine girls before but they literally get pony rides around the enclosure no successful mating's due to the size issues so I didn't even bother separating them this year.
