Jaw misalignment?

Postby maximumbuttitude » Tue Dec 10, 2013 2:45 pm

Hey all, Peperonie just had a bizarre episode and I was hoping someone's had experience with similar things. I happened to look into the enclosure and Pep's lower jaw was skewed to the left and back (it's not a feed day so I don't know how it happened?), and lizard was licking through the gap in obvious discomfort.

I pulled the skink out of the enclosure and got him to open his mouth and it seemed to go away, but it took a bit longer for the jaw to move forward to the correct position again. Peperonie seems fine right now - this all took about 5 minutes.

This hasn't happened before. It isn't normal, right? Should I just keep an eye out for similar behaviors, or follow-up on it?

Wow. I've never heard of anything like that happening. I don't know if anyone else has either. I wouldn't begin to know what to tell you; the obvious thing would be to see a vet, that's what I would do, but I know few people run to vet as much as I do.
Hopefully someone will come on who might have some advice for you.
Just wanted you to know that I'm sure the reason why nobody had responded yet is because they, like me, have no advice to give. :( But you are not being ignored.

Monitor him closely next time he eats and see if there is anything abnormal. If so, a vet visit is probably a good idea.

Whoops sorry I forgot to follow up on this - Pep has been eating normally and I haven't noticed anything weird since this, so I think it was just a fluke. All systems normal.

Thanks for your concerns, I really appreciate the advice!
