So we have now finished setting up our btw enclosure and all ready to bring home our need family addition is early January after our family holiday.
I was just wondering if someone appropriate can give me some advice on our early days together, on everything, handling, feeding etc.
We have 2 children in our house, a 7 and 6 year old and a small very calm dog.
Our hopes are to raise a very tame social little bts. We have decided to get an australian eastern bluey baby. But am open to suggestions available to me in QLD, AUSTRALIA, for our best chances of a very tame bts.
So, what are our best chances to owning a very tame bluey. Do we let them settle in for a week or so before we start handling it? Or do we handle it straight up? I would think it would be better to wait and to handle it gradually, slowing extending time etc.???? But again I'm naive in thinking this. Also, how is it best to get my dog and it used to each other. My dog is pretty scared of lizards he comes across in the garden so will obviously take great precaution is their introduction and early days together, just wanted to know if someone could give us some advice.
Thank you in advance.
I have added a picture I took of our setup, we haven't added substrate yet (have decided on organic sugar mulch) as will wait until a week or so before we get our baby. Any advice on setup is welcome to. It is a 3.5 foot setup, will upgrade to a 5 foot when it is older.

Re: Bringing home our first BTS
There is an FAQ subforum in the General Discussion forum that has answers to many of your questions, along with the food chart and care sheet. All dogs and skinks are different, so I recommend getting to know how each of them react to each other through a barrier like glass before having the skink out in the same room as the dog. As to getting the dog used to the skink, you can never really trust animals (especially when one of them is non domesticated) to behave how you expect them to. The dog may one day decide to play with the skink and hurt it. You should always be in full control of both the dog and the skink when they are near each other.
