Skink gone off his locusts

Hi everyone

I am new to Skink ownership and have had our little fella called Gib (short for Gibraltar) about 4 months now. For the first two months we fed him mostly locusts (dusted of course) and he loved them. It was a joy to see him hunt them and throw his head about once he had caught them before swallowing them

We had trouble introducing him to any kind of greens but fruit was obviously no issue for him as a treat and would take a blueberry out of our hands. Recently he isn't interested in locusts at all and hasn't eaten one in several weeks. Even if I leave him 3 days he won't touch one so I end up giving some smushed up dog food with collard greens in with the mix which he laps up.

Does anyone know why he would go from loving live insects to not interested like that? If I am stuck offering dog food on a regular basis then what is the best brand I should look up in the UK for him?

Nice merauke. He probably went off locusts because of lack of variety in his diet. If you ate only fried chicken for 3 months you would likely get sick of it as well! Dog food is actually a much better diet in terms of nutrition, and I recommend that you use it as a staple with locusts as a treat. Any brand works, just find one without fillers like grains.

Dog food is a good staple. But I do understand how fun it is watching them hunt and thrash about! Maybe you could try different insects as treats, like mealworms or horned worms or even crickets. If you try crickets though, make sure you don't leave any in the tank afterwards. They will eat te lizard if there is no other food source for it.
