Anyone else have a skink that does this?

Postby jdheff1982 » Fri Nov 01, 2013 10:42 am

It seems my skink is obsessed with a particular area of his enclosure. He'll spend most of his time there clawing, digging and "glass dancing" for no apparent reason. It's on his basking side where I use cardboard as an insulation. I don't know if he is reacting to his reflection or what. He'll even try digging into the slate pieces. He doesn't seem stressed or anything. Maybe he's bored?

Yeah, my skinks do it too.. mostly the males, though. Virginia will climb up on the glass from time to time, but she doesn't pick a particular spot like London, Ema, and Hunter do, though.

If you think he's bored try rearranging the cage decorations next time you clean it out.

It can also be that the cage is too hot and he finds it uncomfortable, so it's worth checking your temperatures to make sure he always has a cool spot to retreat to.

This is not an issue. Hot side is always 90 to 100F under the lights and cool side is mid 70's to low 80's. Ambient is 71F in my apartment. He has every opportunity to seek cooler temps.
