Good stuff Rory. I'm sure you know that Roger is a little bit further along this path though!

Actually he expected regular offsprings as he knew those traits are recessives. His intentions was to then cross the heterozygous offspings together to obtain homozygous albino x melanistic skinks .... which could be again normal looking skink I fear

... because excessive melanine+ no melanin would equal normal amount of melanin no? Doesn't work like that?

I think the double homozygous babies will just be albinos. If the albinism gene blocks the hypermelanism gene, they will just be albinos. If it goes the other way around, they will be hypermel+anery+axanthic (I think?).

The difference will be the lack of pattern. The hypomelanistic skinks basically cover the skink in black, and then the albino gene turns that black into orange. So it will have the colours of the albino with the pattern (or lack of pattern) of the melanistic.
(I think).

I wasn't making any judgements, just thought this thread was interesting and worth a look.
A fluoro orange bluey does sound kind of cool. And fascinating that he got matings at 9 months of age

His first alb matings were with similar ages ones,he asked me if they were maybe to young, they were yearlings if memory serves me correctly ,i said if they are of a suitanle soze age shouldnt matter and he bred them

Whos Roger? Im obviously not up to date with this, i was sent a photo a whiel ago of a lutino eastern and it was a nice bright yellow but you could still see faded pattern underneath. I would love to see the homozygous double hets that Rogers produced.
