Well today is feeding day over here, every skinks favorite day of the week. About fifteen minutes ago i got to Ronans enclosure and noticed that his food bowl needed to be washed out. I set down the mixing bowl full of skink chow and ran to the kitchen to wash out his bowl. I wasnt really thinking about it and i left the door to his enclosure open... This is what i found when i came back. Not the best pictures of Ronan since hes going into shed, but this absolutely made my day.

2 questions. First do you feed only once a week and second how do you make that chow?

The adults get food once a week. The yearling get food twice a week, and the babies get food everyday. This mix is just dog food and frozen mixed vegetables with a calcium d/3 supplement and a multivitamin.

The adults and yearlings get Merrick. The babies get Wellness cat food. Although i used up my last case of merrick yesterday, so this batch is Pedigree which works just as well. I try to add greens, or organic ground meats and eggs once a week or so for the babies and every other week for the adults and yearlings.

Last weeks batch was Merrick, mixed veggies, Pureed mixed greens (the same mix that the Uromastyx, desert Iguanas, and Bearded Dragons get) Eggs w/shells, Lamb, bison, and beef because they were on sale. I added a little of my left over ground organ meat mix in for the babies.

No problem. Its worth mentioning though that this routine is fairly costly, plenty of people have them a diet of exclusively dogfood with only occasional mixed veggies and they thrive on that to. Blueys are really hardy and will do well on just about anything.

I actually do the same thing. If my wife is cooking/baking, I wait until she leaves the room, then I'm on whatever it is in 2 seconds flat. I think I'm a little smarter than the skink though, because I almost always get in and out before she returns.

I dont mean to derail this topic, but i noticed in your pictures that your dog food advertises 96% grain free.

I'm guessing grains are bad for skinks? I might have made a bad purcase: i bought some wet kibbles and bits brand food that had "meatball pasta dinner" as one of the varieties. Inside the can are literally small noodle rings.

Should i return this or just feed only the meat portions?

As far as i know grains arent typically bad for skinks at all. Im not sure about noodles.... Probably ok? hopefully someone a little more educated can chime in. I use this stuff simply because i like knowing exactly what they are eating. When you open a can of this stuff, it smells like people food. I hate the dog food smell

I was feeding Zeke the other day and he saw me with his food, so he got all excited and came to the front of the tank. But I had to quickly do something so I popped it ontop of his tank (Its a top opening one) and I come back and hes up on the highest perch in his tank, lamenting his lack of ability to go higher....
