While out for play time, she discovered a tube that was actually slotted to be thrown out. Makes my back hurt just looking at her. She seems to like it. Do you think I should keep it for her or is this causing damage to her back? Will she get stuck or will she know when it is too small? She seems quite content in it.

I definitely wouldn't, but that's me.. I freaked out when one of my Meraukes went in a paper towel roll and wouldn't come out.

I'm sure it would be fine, but what if she did get stuck? Cant you take it apart?

I wouldn't give it to her as a hide, just in case. However, I think she should be able to make it out on her own, at least for now.

It can actually be totally disassembled into pieces and halves, but yes, I agree. It looks fun, but probably not the best skink toy. She did get out on her own.

if those rings could come apart lengthwise I'd feel a lot safer.

They can. The rings come off and then each tube is split in half.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about that tube. It appears to be part of an old hamster/small rodent play set. Most all of those kits can be disassembled into smaller pieces. Plus, skinks are natural burrowers; so, they like fitting into spaces just big enough to hold them. I would only worry if the skink showed signs of distress after entering the tube (ie: struggling to get free).

In the wild,reptiles often get caught in tight fitting objects and perish because of it,bird netting,chicken wire fencing,discarded drink cans ect

They arent cluey enough to realise they may get stuck and can suprisingly squeeze into tight objects you wouldnt think possable,so alwaus err on the side of caution

Yes, the tubes come apart great, but they don't exactly do so easy. In order to get that apart you'd have to bend the skink quite a bit more I believe, which could hurt.

However, since the skink was able to get out by itself it seems safe enough in my eyes. Provided of course that the skink doesn't grow too much bigger.
