Picked up my first BTS today :D

Postby SgtSkullSmasher » Tue Oct 01, 2013 9:02 pm

Heya everyone.

Names JD. Im 20, soon to be 21 from lovely Canada.

I was an avid ball python collector for the last 2 years and recently got out of them. I finally got rid of my last ball python today. I did a cash/trade for a lovely BTS.

Without further ado I present to you "not named yet" the 3 year old Female Northern Blue Tongue Skink!

Bringing her home.

Sleepy Skink.

The first picture is really close to her natural colours and those are her fresh shed colours too! In a few days I will get her out and take some more pictures of her. I am really glad I finally own a BTS I have wanted one for a while.

She is extremely friendly. Loves being out of her cage and out with you. I am really happy with her and happy to have her.

Thanks for looking,

Sgt.

Very nice looking Northern. I don't know if it's just the picture, but her tail looks a bit lumpy, so make sure to give her lots of calcium and D3!

Welcome Sgt! Congratulations! We are quite sure you will not regret the trade.

If you haven't already, I would suggest you read through the Caresheet http://bluetongueskinks.net/care.htm
Even though some of us don't take everything there as "Bible", it does have lots of good info.

On the things you still are wondering about, use the search function right next to the "New Topic" button, lots of things have been discussed and hashed (some ad nauseum...) and you'll find all kinds of opinions and good info you may want to apply for yourself and your "not named yet" girl.

And if you still have questions, or just something you want to run by us, ask away! We are here to help you enjoy your new girl as much as possible, and help ensure the best living conditions possible for her.

You guys seem to be off on a good start! :)

I agree her tail looks slightly lumpy. Should I just get come calcium with d3 powder and dust her food with it?

Okie thanks so much. Her previous owner didnt tell me if he was dusting her food or not. But I went out and got a bottle of calcium with D3 dust!

I also fed her today... well tried to she hasnt touched it yet. I not sure if I got the portions right but I did 1 1/2 table spoons of ground beef, 1 tablespoon of dandelion leaves, 1 tablespoon of endive leaves and a bit of banana. Then I mixed it all together and dusted with the powder. How does that sound?

Meal sounds fine, if maybe a hearty portion. You might want to mix in some dog food, the scent might entice her more. Not that you need to worry anytime soon if she doesn't eat.

My skinks do not come out everyday. :noknow:

Gosh, if I wanted to, I go DAYS without seeing my baby Halmahera locale Indonesian. I can go a couple days without seeing Xaunder or Ema, also. It is their nature to hide. Some hide more than others. Just give 'em time, he'll eventually come out.

Thanks for the reassurance Dakota.

I spend most of my day on the computer and her tank is right bedside it so I hope im not freaking her out. Either that or because I am beside her all day is why I feel like shes not coming out it just feels like forever haha.

Like I said. I always worry about my animals lol. I just care too much I guess!

Ah, no worries. It is a good thing you are cautious.
