Three New Enclosures

Postby Scincoides » Sun Sep 29, 2013 11:50 pm

I needed new caging for some of the Northerns, and a very close friend who also conveniently own a small reptile shop, offered to build some for me. We went down to his workshop today and had a blast hanging out and building cages. We spent ten hours with him and his family, and ended up with three awesome cages for less than the cost of one of my vision cages. The cages measure 50 inches long x 28 inches deep x 32 inches tall. I know the extra height wasn't necessary, but Richard C. swears up and down that Northerns will utilize vertical space if its provided to them, so i figured, why not give it a shot. The stack weighs a ton, but they look nice and i think the skinks will love them. These new cages will go to Lisa, Ronan, and James Wilsons 2012 baby Darwin when she gets here. Ill post a few more pics tomorrow when the silicone dries and i can set them up and get the doors mounted.

Thanks. We were trying to eliminate as much heat transfer as possible with the double flooring, it also gave me the ability to hide all the power cords and run them through the back into the timer. I'm going to try to attach some cork to the back and offer lots of climbing options within the next few weeks. See if big fat T.s.I will climb if given the opportunity.

thats a great idea! nothing is more obnoxious than having a huge mess of chords hanging out. especially with such nice looking cages like those! they came out great! i built mine too at the end of the summer. not as nice and clean as yours, but definitely an improvement from the old 55 gallon and i had a great time building it!

I have a 3-4 month old northern and i dont think i've ever seen him climb much. but then again, hes still a shy little guy

I have always wanted to build a cage like this, seems too difficult (I'm a vegetable).

They should be pretty sturdy. The stack weighs far more than I do. I'm a massive human being (i look like a slightly less hairy Sasquatch) and I still destroyed my back trying to get it in the house. Even with help.

The doors are just framed tempered glass with piano hinges. I actually just got them on, but since I'm exhausted and not handy at all, they are a little uneven.

Lol! I still want to see pictures. Also, was trying to figure out how to say your wife and baby are beautiful without sounding creepy. That Shannon guy concerns me a bit though.
