This is another example of a baby shingleback from the Bendigo area of Victoria that I found on the road today.

I love how well shinglebacks camouflage with the locale they are found in. Shinglebacks are amazing and this little one is no exception! Thanks for sharing, Scott!

I'm heartened by the fact that I see quite a few little ones around so they seem to be reproducing ok locally. They tend to loose a bit of the fawny colour as they get older, I've seen some around here that are almost jet black with others with prominant stripes and others again with various shades of brown striping - i don't know how many I walk past and never see cos they blend in perfectly in the local box ironbark forests/woodlands. This one I drove right over the top of and luckily didn't hit - I picked it up off the road and sent it on it's way.

So cute! I agree with Linnea, if I go to Aus I'll have huge pockets. For holding treats.

That's a beautiful one! I don't think I have seen one with that coloring before.

I agree, I think after shedding it could get even more orange.

I hope to come with some nice pictures of a new male I will pick up at Hamm.

It would actually change to a darker brown, losing some of the honey colours, like some of the adult pictures I've posted. It is interesting how they start out.

Are all the other ones you've come across in the area similar to that one, and how large an area do they occupy before the pattern starts to change?
MMMmmmmm... Something???????
