Kiah stuck in a gargoyle

There has been a gargoyle in the enclosure for years, which had a small hole at the base, like a pot, where it's hollowed on the inside. I had always thought the hole too small for anyone to crawl into, particularly since the shingles have such big heads, but they have always moved it around a bit, knocking it down, pushing it towards the pool, digging under it etc.

However, today was the day. I was surprised Kiah managed to fit all the way in and when I found him, all of him was curled up, very uncomfortable looking, inside the gargoyle. Now I'm sure that if he got in, he could have got out, but he did look terribly squished up in there, so I decided to gently break the base and get him out. He looked totally unperturbed, looking at me wondering what all the fuss was about, I'm sure of it. He still wanted back into the broken gargoyle once I'd extricated him, but he'll have to find a better spot for a quiet rest.

From the pictures you can see how big Kiah is next to the gargoyle, so I doubt he had a lot of room in there. The pictures are kind of funny and I know he'd have only been in there this morning, since I saw him sunbathing earlier, but still ... he did have my heart racing with worry for a few minutes!

Jeff, if I had curled up inside a gargoyle too small for my body, then it would be excusable, but otherwise I see your point. He did look happy, if too darned uncomfortable for my liking. He's probably done that every day and I hadn't seen him though- don't worry, I'll give him a toilet roll tube to play with

they can certainly get into tight spots lea,they actually like that,but it can be nerve wracking when captives do it,wouldnt suprise me if he got out fine

its why i dont get why people have such big hides for them,they love to feel walls and roof in a hide,when i house them on newspaper or grass carpet they ignore my hides for the paper or carpet as a hide or to rub it in they use the hide but are under the paper or carpet still,lol

where i lived when i was young,at the end of our road which was a coastal national park the last house had a limestone fence,with gaps everywhere,in the warmer time of the year there was always a couple of easterns in the wall or basking just out of it,but you could see where they went to hide and im still buggered if i know how they squeezed in so deep,but they would come back out pretty quick when u buggered off for 5 minutes or so

they can thermoregulate in hides like that to

but yeah,not sure id be keen on them wedging into a gargoyle,lol

They do like to wedge themselves in to the point I can't see how they can breathe sometimes! The shinglebacks are always doing it, 6 or 7 stacked on top of each other in the smallest of spaces, like the gap between a tough aloe and the fence. I always feel sorry for the one at the bottom! I truly didn't think that the small hole in the gargoyle base could even fit any of their heads though, let alone a monster like Kiah

kiahs tail looks solid as in first pic

tight spots and stacking up lizards or even single lizards wedged into gargoyles is a thermoregulation thing,or a means of holding there body temps higher

stacks on is usually on cooler days,when another comes over to join in they often bury into centre of the stack

Here in bendigo they squeeze between the smallest gaps in fences between properties.

Oh my goodness:-) I understand what you may felt when you found Kiah in his "new hide". My Naxos had wandered the living room supervised many times....and then one day I took my eyes off him and he disappeared. Luckily I could hear this scratching... I found him wedged inside the sub woofer speaker.The opening wasn't very big and there was no way to open it without destroying it. Using a flashlight, I could see him having a grand time crawling around. I was leaving for a trip the next morning and panicked about what to do. I ended up breaking out a can of snails and coaxing him out. Boy was I relieved. He is larger now but I don't let him into that room with the sub woofer anymore.

Lol! Sometimes blueys don't always think before they go. My Apollo got stuck a while back, I got some low quality video if it but I still thought it was funny.
