BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

I couldnt find any topic of blue tongue skink enclosures,
So i thought it would be fun to make a topic where everyone could drop a picture of her or his set up.
That way newbies (just like myself) can look how others keep their blueys or even members that are long time bluey owners can look through here to get some ideas

I'm still working on my terrarium but when it's finished i will also post it here

This is my newest tank it is a Vision 422 - 48" x 28" x 18" I love this tank; Eventually all my BTS will be in these! I have 4 BTS total. The other 3 are in 40 gal breeders. Planning to get 1 more of these tanks by winter.

We go with Showcase vivariums. LOVE them! I think there's enough in the "tank account" that we will be ordering another 4 footer any day now.

This is a 5 x 2 x 2 enclosure. I used Aspen on the left half (cooler) side, while the right half (warmer) side is lined with coconut fiber. There are four hides, one on the left, two in the middle (burrow under the tile), and one on the right next to his rock.

The enclosure is covered with fake Ivy, Ferns, and random plants from the dollar store.

I love all of these

this is what Tili my IJ is housed in...we also have 422 vision's...but our 3 boa's and Tegu are occupying them..if i can find another 422 though i'm on top of it as an upgrade enclosure since Tili has just about outgrown this exo terra..that or it's time to get to the drawing board and draw one up to build for him..

i thought i had a picture of the enclosure all set up and Tili hanging out basking..but i can't seem to find it.

I use a triple stacked homemade melamine enclosure with aspen shavings or coconut mulch for substrate.
Both skinks each have a homemade basking shelf/ hide, a humid hide, and at least two other hides (Although you might not be able to see them, some are buried).

My BTS enclosure is a 4x2x2 foot custom PVC plastic, fire retardant, enclosure with plexiglass window/door. It's made by Cornel's World Terrariums in Alberta Canada. It's amazing! Light and easy to carry, easy to clean and it keeps heat and humidity very well. My substrate is coconut fiber and it retains humidity very well. If I ever need another terrarium I will certainly buy this kind again.

Where in Alberta is this made? And if you don't mind me asking, how expensive was it? I'm in Calgary in the market for a bigger tank,this might be something to look into!!

I bet it is fun taking out the skink on the very bottom of the stacked cage.

Its not bad. Its changing the lightbulb in the bottom cage that's a pain.

okay i'm still not finished with my terrarium yet! (still making it sturdy, waterproof and i'm also gonna give it some coloring)
BUT i'm really glad with how it looks at the moment so i'm gonna share it anyways... (I'm posting a bit of the proces)

First steps in making the terrarium.


Painted & started to try some things with the background


Wasn't happy with the background i made, so i redid it.


When i finally was happy with how the platforms etc. looked i started to make a rocky background between de platforms.


There is no substrate at the moment but when it's finished i'm going to put in substrate that is getting deeper from front to back..That way the skink will have some space to dig in and enough space to walk..
on the lower left you can see a platform which (when i have some substrate for at the bottum) will become a cave, which he/she can dig bigger itself.
In the middle you can see a big platform with a rocky side, which is like a really really big cave (the thing is hollow so it is roomier then it looks) There i will put a bowl with water for him/her to lay in.
On the right side there wil be a basking spot and also you can see 2 more caves.

I know skinks are ground animals but like i said the substrate will make everything that looks high lower...not sure how to explain it better in english xD

Just moved back upstate again this past weekend for school and decided to build a new, larger enclosure for toothless. For an end of the summer project that i kind of just winged, im pretty happy with it. Currently i only have the front doors to open up the enclosure, but soon im gunna work on making the top removable as well. the dimensions are 48x26x18










a few more additions inside and some minor tweaks to the physical enclosure and i think it will be perfect

Mimo that looks like an awesome start, keep us posted! I really want to do this but I am so NOT crafty or handy!!

Lucas, that tank looks great. What did you make it out of?

I am going to buy substrate and maybe a couple little things for my enclosure today - I'll post some pics once it's all clean and set up again!!!
