Ambient and basking temperature and a few pictures

I know that pictures of a temperature gun aren't exactly thrilling to look at, but I recorded a few temperatures outside today, looking at ambient and basking temperatures. I took recordings at each basking spot, where a shingleback was chilling out, both in the shade and in full sun. The differences are quite vast. I found it interesting that when I measured the temperature of one of the lizards, it was over twice that of the ambient temperature, which shows how important it is to be aware of actual basking temperatures in our enclosures.

Anyway, enough chatter, the pictures speak for themselves. All the recordings were taken within a 5 minute period, during which there was constant sun, no cloud cover and a light breeze. It's also worth bearing in mind that these are winter temperatures.

Good post.

Even in the cooler climates down south , it's a nice reminder how warm the skinks can get down at their level.

But at this time of year they still can't avoid the night time chill( well they try to in their hides).

some try to in there hides,my blotchies curl up exposed to the elements all winter long ignoring my hide box offerings

i had a feeling your guys must have found a warm spot,especially to be having a munch,shows how hot spots could get if ambient is in the 30s

I know! It must get ridiculous when the ambient temps are in the 40's. Today wasn't even that warm!
