BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

Hello again ! I have a couple of questions I would love for you guys to answer...again. But first update! My northern blue tongue skink , Percy, is 1 year and a month old exactly today...weird I've had him for about 10 months...maybe I don't know I'm not good at math ! Anyway he is last I checked 86 grams or something like that and is almost 13 inches long keep in mind those measurements were like a couple months ago I don't have the best memory sometimes and I keep forgetting to mention to my parents how we need a scale... anyways now for the questions we just went through a move and Percy seemed fine with it then we got him a new cage with a new hide plus a new skin oh and a new heat lamp and a different bulb I know they are good at hiding their emotions and all but I don't think Percy is. He is still eating and everything but he is angry if he is out of his hide and I walk into the room he runs away he huffs a lot more and he generally hates it if I get near him and its what I was sort of expecting but it still makes me sad because I kind of feel like he thinks I took everything good in his life and crushed it ... gosh sorry for the long post I'm just really sad because he pretty much hates me could anything else be bothering him or is there anything I can do to help him??? Thanks !!!

First - get a good scale, 86g is too low a weight for a 1 year old, and I'm quite certain he is more than that-as he doesn't look really skinny. Give him time to settle in to the new home, he is most likely still adjusting.

wow, a scale is a must...at 18 inches my tili now weighs 405G, but...when i brought her home at 12inches she was 65g...and thats a dramatic change from feb to now, and my prediction was 6m old.....not sure what to tell you about the running away issue...i guess make your presence be a good one...when ever you walk in ..maybe give him a tiny snack hand fed..like a bite of berry or some thing yummy and sweet...like candy to a kid lol...but no more than a couple times a day i'd say..you dont want a sugar obsessed skink...even take him out and offer some thing to eat...

Yeah I know but I keep forgetting about it and his weight could have been 186 grams I don't know like I said I don't remember things like that well .

ive had blueys for over 30 years,only invested in scales a few months ago,they arent a super important part of husbandry,to me anyways,they dont always get adult size in less than a year either,if theu pick up outside cues they can shut down for winter even with heat,my juvie northerns do

wild ones often take around 3 years to get to adult size,some southern forms(long winters)take longer,if it otherwise looks solid,no hip bones showing ect i wouldnt be to concerned,if u want it to grow faster it may need more warmth over winter to keep active

Are you sure you measured in grams? I know my scale weighs in 4 different measurements.

I am about 75 percent positive it was the grams the vet measured him though so I don't know if that matters...
