Sandpaper
I just cleaned my skinks cage and it started shedding. I wasn't thinking very well when I cleaned the enclosure. Now it's at the height of its shedding and I don't want it to get the new substrate all messy. So I put my skink in a box with very low grade sandpaper at the bottom, it hasn't been in very long at all, 5 minutes maybe. Is this ok?

Interesting idea, I don't know if it is a good one or not. I can't imagine it being super effective, but maybe it would help trim nails.
But if you are trying to help your skink finish shedding I would recommend a bath instead. Let it soak for just a few minutes and get a q-tip (Or I found a small clean paint brush works well) and help gently rub some of the loose shed off.

The bath worked great! Now my skink is beautiful and clean again. Plus she isn't going to dirty up her cage!
