toes

My bluey recently escaped his cage and I found him in a closet. I am very relieved that I found him in 2 days after his escape, and he seems to be healthy, because he is eating and acting completely normally. The only problem was on one foot, two toes were bent in an awkward position and a dark purple color. I assume they were broken when he jumped off his counter, a 4 foot drop. If anyone knows what I can do to help him, any advice is appreciated. I also would like to avoid a trip to the vet if possible, because it is expensive and he hasn't been of much help in the past. I think a trip to the vet is mandatory for this type of situation, sorry. Sounds like he broke something in his foot. I had a snake escape from his cage once, and I guess where he fell 4 feet, it paralyzed him from the middle portion down.. found him in my closet a few days later, and after just a couple of hours of finding him, waiting for my father to come home, he passed away.. very sad. Not saying this relates to much of your case, but just take him to the vet before anything more worse happens. Lucky he didn't brake something serious on the fall, like the spine.

have you checked the list of veterinarians through this website?

it sounds like your blueys toes are broken or otherwise hurt. they will hurt them out in the wild as well, but it is most likely as painful to your bluey as it looks to you. i suggest bringing your bluey to a veterinarian to have a look at the toes.
Blueys can live perfectly well without a few or many toes, what is important is that its seen so that there is no major injury you cannot see, which can prove to be more troublesome.

it is not a very unusual type of accident, so i believe even a vet who do not specialize in reptiles have an idea of what to do.

If the two toes are the only think that you notice out of the norm, I wouldn't say that a vet is mandatory at this point. Of course it would be best to take him in to make sure there are no other injuries not visible to you; reptiles can be masters at masking symptoms. Personally I would take him in, for my peace of mind; I consider vet costs after accidents like that part of pet-ownership, but believe me, I understand both the $$$ issue and not having a vet who seems to not be very helpful (not anymore, thank goodness!).

Any chance of some pics of the foot to show what you mean,its hard to offer any advice over the net,especially with out seeing anything,even then all we can do is guess,a check up in person with a vet will be best way to get accurate answers

Toes may not be broken,put if in awkward position and purple they sound like there hurt somehow,how does lizard go walking with them ect,do they appear to still operate

I would post a picture of the the toe that seemed broken, but it isn't there anymore. it fell off the day after I found him. I don't think he has any major injuries, as he is eating and drinking well, and I've never seen him run as fast as he did when the cat found him in the closet as I was trying to get him out. I think he is okay, but if I notice anything else then it is straight to the vet. Thanks again!

Also this is not the first time he has made his great escape. He seems to know a route down by scaling the drawers or something, and until yesterday I didnt know how he was escaping. I found out that he was overpowering the (very strong) magnets holding the cage shut. I have fixed the problem and he wont escape again.
