All shots were taken with a newly acquired 100mm macro lens. It has intensified the yellow a couple of degrees so a bit more experience with the lens and maybe a tweak of the white balance should get closer to the natural colour. On the very close shots there is more vignetting than I would like but a moving subject can make it a bit difficult to guess exactly when to press the shutter button.

i tend to find that pinks and reds don't look natural with my camera (an older Nikon) but yellows with mine look washed out.

Yeah Scott, it seems as though digital cameras read colour balance differently That was always the way with 35mm film but then it was always the film stock not the camera.

I tried running a few shots through editing software but it ended up either burning my eyes or looking like a black and white shot. Fiddling with the histogram was even worse, some attempts made the image look like 3D without the glasses. I used to think 35mm photography at times difficult but these DSLR's have so many buttons, dials and menus that by the time they are optimally set up the subject has moved to another state.

I have a pretty ancient sony camera that's only 10 megapixels, but this video helped me learn the settings a bit better and understand what I was doing with them. Since you guys have actual DSLRs, maybe you'd find the video helpful too? It does talk about color correcting and how to get colors to be more accurate.

Thank you for the link Jen. It's rather long but I did watch it all and found the second half particular informative.

I checked the manual for my old 35mm film camera and it runs to 81 pages. The manual for the DSLR camera is 372 pages and the manual for the photo editing software another 630 pages. It's wonderful how digital photography has simplified everything.
