Has anyone used beefheart for skinks?
I have a bunch of frozen beef heart and wondered if I could use it on the skinks? If so should I boil it first? Thanks in advance

It's a great treat! If you're sure of the source, I'd feed it raw. If you aren't certain about the quality then cook it. But it is great to add in for variety.

Great! Thanks for the info Katrina! I got a bunch of it from the grocery store today. A little over four lbs for a dollar and a half. I figured even if the skinks couldn't eat it, I could use it for the dogs.... or misbehaving children.... looks like everyone is getting some tomorrow

No worries. It is very nutrient dense, so great... but it can lead to too much of certain things (like vitamin A, off the top of my head) if fed exclusively or in large amounts and it is low in calcium. However, it is a great things to throw in to food to add variety or to feed as an occasional treat. I have chicken or beef hearts / livers on hand for cat treats and skink food as well

Cool. I'll try it out today. I won't use much though. Vitamin A can be highly toxic in large quantities And that has always worried me.

Beef heart doesn't have any Vitamin A to speak of.

Oops, my mistake - it is liver with vitamin A. I was just going off the top of my head, couldn't remember what organs exactly.

Re: Has anyone used beefheart for skinks?
Good to know. I cooked it in a standard skillet with a little water and they seemed to enjoy it, well once it was mixed with some greens and dog food. Do any of you know if using a non stick skillet is a bad idea? I haven't ever used one to cook anything for any of the animals, nor do I microwave any of their food. Am I being overly cautious? Or is it best to avoid using them? Thanks
