BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

I would love to see a picture of a 26" northern! I have never seen one before, and I have seen hundreds! The longest I have seen is 24 3/4".

Also, males don't have to be great breeders to get the job done, it just makes it easier for you if they are. Don't give up on him, just be willing to spend more time breeding if he isn't a "natural".

Ha Jeff, I've never actually measured him, its entirely likely that he's slightly smaller than 26 inches. I'm no good with guestimating sizes. He's the largest Northern that I've ever seen. I'll put it that way like I said, I tried to add the photo but it didn't work. If you want to pm me your email, I'll send a pic. He's a stunning animal.

How come you couldn't add a photo? You should be able to using the photo uploader on the site. It allows for fairly large images.

You can also add it to photobucket or similar site and link it. I'd love to see him. Or, if all else fails, email it to me and I can add it.

Good luck with the breeding! Hopefully once he figures it out, he'll get better.

ive held a 26 inch female,and seen a pic of an 82 cm long male,both the nt variety,the big male i believe is in the google pics of northerns

Can the 82 cm male be verified though Richard? That is over 32", and it seems like a bts that size would be documented somehow. I have never come across one that size in all the times I have been searching the internet for different things. I don't doubt that someone out there is claiming to have one that big, I would just really, really like to see it if they do!

Do you know the guy? I would really like to see a picture of the skink next to a ruler or something that shows its size. I don't know anything about this person, and he might be the most honest guy that ever lived, but I can't tell you how many times I have heard claims of 30" northerns that turned out to be false. I'm pretty sure that this guy will already have pictures out there of the skink being measured if it is really that big.

i dont know scott personally,perhaps rory does,hes pretty well known with aussie herpers and quite respectable,a few other keepers have varified its size,but ill see what i can find out

i remember reading an article from scott in an old herp journal on this lizard,must have been ten or more years ago when he still lived in melb,cant remember its age but believe its over 15 years old

I have spent quite a bit of time looking for more on this skink, and have not had any luck. Can anyone show some evidence that this guy is really this big? I am hoping someone can. I would absolutely love to know that a northern can get that huge!

I haven't seen horse in person myself but I have met Scott and know many people who have seen Scott's "Horse". Scott has held this animal for more than 25 years. The general consensus from people who view this animal is, "Wow!!" Even from the non skink keepers.

Apparently he doesn't play well with females, Scott gave up trying to mate him after about the fourth death.

Wow! That's great! (The size, not the fact that he kills females). Has he considered artificial insemination? A skink that size should definitely pass on his DNA. I know a few people in Australia have been doing AI for quite some time now, and they have it down to a science.

I would certainly like to see him give it a shot. I would still love to see this guy by something to show his size. Just a normal sized bluey or something else common, to give a sense of just how big that is. I can't really even picture what that must look like in person. Would be great to know the weight as well.
