Not Convinced...

Postby Jawsh » Sat Mar 23, 2013 9:58 pm

Hi everybody,

I thought I had bought an Indonesian BTS, but I've been researching a lot and I'm not thoroughly convinced. Could you identify what type I have? Its forearms are not solid black like most Indonesians. In fact, they're not black at all, they're like a chocolate brown. The inner part of the arm however, is really light brown/gray. (The picture is also kinda dark, so take that into consideration)

Yup, that would be an IJ, not an Indo. Very cute little chub-ball.

I agree that it's an Irian Jaya, and a very cute one at that! I love those dark chocolate colors!<3

Thank you everyone! It's such a relief to know it's an Irian Jaya and not an Indonesian. :)

Do you not prefer Indonesians?

I've just heard so many bad things about them, and I didn't want to get stuck with something that was aggressive and not handle-able. There were a few people who said their Indos were just as tame as any other BTS, but I figured it would be better to have a breed that has been known to be pretty friendly. This is also my first skink.

Most of the bad rep comes from the fact that almost ALL Indos are wild caught. I have a feeling that my Indo would be a sweetheart if he hadnt been taken from the wild. That being said, he isnt aggressive, he just is a very sensitive boy, and would prefer to be left alone. He also scares very easily. My merauke, who was most likely WC as well, is my best behaved, most "loving" skink. Shes my favorite of them all!
