Rip Pugsley
Thought he would start looking better after his shed, like last time, when he didnt im decided to make a vet app. Sadly he didnt make it, he died an hour after from unknown causes. The seller apologised and gave me the best looking and healthy indo he had. He is w/c but he looks in great condition! Little bit of an attitude but weel see how he is after hes acclimatised.

I'm so sorry. I know how if feels to lose a Blue-Tongued Skink.. I think about my baby every night I go to sleep. It's a very sad thought, but things happen. I hope this animal is awesome!

Yes, i try and think being with me had to have been a better ending then in a wholesaler. This is the second time ive interacted with Todadile and hes look good both times, he was the dominant and best looking one they had and he gave me a fantastic deal on him.

I'm very sorry to hear your sad story! This is what scares me away from WC...as they aren't raised by loving owners/breeders. I have a few available all in my area but they're all from a supplier and 99% guaranteed wild caught. Currently looking for quality breeders in Canada and the US so I can get my hands on a quality Northern. The waiting is the only negative part

Fatal_S from these forums is a Canadian breeder of Northerns. I got mine from her, and highly suggest her! She put up with months of emails and bugging her day and night and was always so nice and informative. http://www.melsexotics.ca

Re: Rip Pugsley
Is this the same skink everyone was concerned about before? Thats very sad to hear, but he didnt seem to have much of a chance going by the pictures posted in one of your first threads. Hopefully this new skink is healthier and you have learned something from your previous experience. Sorry to hear he didnt make it.

Re: Rip Pugsley
if in good shape to begin with, wild caughts can do great in captivity, even with out ever seeing a vet,my centralians and my old stumpy pr are/where wild caughts, luckily in aus theres no gap between getting them like the indo varieties, the worst bit over there is the time it takes from wild to good captive housing for them, they are over collected till sufficient numbers are gathered, then shipped to wholesalers ect whom also dont house them the best alot of the time, its little wonder so many succumb
sorry to hear about your little guy,he looked to be doing well ,but a fast turn around is always a possability when getting them like in your ones original condition, some pull throufg, unfortunatly some dont

Thanks, im gonna give him a week to acclimatize then try and handle him. And i have 2 quick questions,
1: if i wanted to detox wild snails how would i go about doing it.
And 2: is there a problem with feeding baby food its 100% chicken and chicken broth, as well os others like squash, sweet potato and beef.

Re: Rip Pugsley
1.
you cannot make wild snails parasite free.
some snails also eat toxic plants, and hav walked through and absorbed toxins in the nature it lives in.
i think like this:
- one yearly vet visit for extra careful parasite check, is it worth the cost for taking snails from the nature?
- when i attempted to keep several snails for breeding, and some for feeding for 3 weeks, i discovered a horrifying secret - they eat like pigs. as in, keeping and slightly de toxing a snail for 3 weeks will cost you more salad than your skink eats in a month.
so.......well. do as you wish. ill just stay away from snails now.
2.
id not feed the baby food in large amounts. it is very seldom of the quality it says, on top of that it has absolutely no chewing needed, which is probably not great in the long run.
as said, its not dangerous, but its always better to feed fresh.

Re: Rip Pugsley
I see your point, linnea, but I guess I'm not too much of a stickler for parasite free snails, since they live outdoors and help themselves to all manner of buggies anyway.
I do feed wild snails after detoxing them from chemicals for at least a week in my fridge. My boyfriend has adjusted to seeing molluscs next to our dinner, but rest assured, they are still in a secure container! You can use any plastic pot, just make sure you have a secure lid or they will explore, even in the cold temps. Pierce some small holes for air, in the lid. You can feed them any vegetation, but I usually give them a full cleanse with just a bit a fresh lettuce.
Remember, the more you feed, the more they poop, so a quick swill in a colander under a running tap cleans most of the goop off before feeding. I keep them at least a week just to be sure, sometimes two if the weather isn't playing nice for me to feed. Ideally, I'd keep a snail house, like we used to have in the uk, but the scorching summers would see them all fry in Australia, so my fridge has to suffice. A fridge too cold, say below 4 degrees, will send most snails to sleep though, so if you are a chilly fridge person, just crank it up a couple of degrees during snail keeping, or your snails won't eat, thus, won't be able to detox any chemicals.

Re: Rip Pugsley
Ok thank you, i think i will stay away from snails for a bit.
As for the baby food i see what your saying, i prefer to boil some chicken or beef and feed real squash when i can, i just add some baby food to veggies if i dont happen to have any real food at the moment.
Sorry more question, i know it varries from skink to skink, but how long can i expect him to just hide all day when i first get him, so far its been 2 days?

Thanks, i went back because he wasnt an ass about it, he apologised, and thinking back this new one was kept in a better way then Pugsly. I only had to pay an extra 50$ for the new indo.
To disenfect i replaced all the shavings baked, what could be at 250 and washed the food and water dish with soap.

Re: Rip Pugsley
Wow. Most reputable vendors would have given you a replacement animal for free if you could have proven it was their fault that the animal died. This guy is just making money off you in the most despicable way ever! PLEASE stop giving him money to import more unhealthy animals that will probably die!
Soap is NOT enough to disinfect after an animal dies of unknown causes. You need to invest in either F-10, or at LEAST use some bleach or ammonia (not at the same time of course).
