worried, again

Postby Linnea » Tue Mar 19, 2013 1:22 am

I caught Pomme, my northern, yesterday with his mouth slightly open, and when he closed it and breathed i heard a clicking noise for a little while. he spends most of his time in a plastic tube hide, so i have likely heard it before the past week but assumed it was a scratching noise. no liquid from nose, mouth or eyes. no lethargy. but i not taking chances.

other than this he has increased in weight despite my effort of keeping him on a regular diet, not helping his breathing if there should be a problem with it.
he has also not shed since i got him in nvoember.

quick vet appointment :(

is there anything i can do while i wait for the appointment? im checking available times as i write this, but it might even take a full week before i get a time.

thanks Richard!

ill just feed and leave him alone then. i cant get him out of his hide without a decent amount of work in any case. might have to bring the whole thing to the vet.

its regular temps, maybe a bit cold since a snowstorm is passing. though his basking temps are good.
well. the open mouth. could be.....breathing difficulities for some reason. and i sure dont hope pomme is a she instead of a he.

Sounds like there isn't much you can do but let us know how the vet visit goes!

BTS are obligate nose breathers so will not breathe through their mouths unless something is impairing normal breathing. If he is regularly breathing through his mouth instead of his nostrils and seems to be exerting, try to have a look at his gums to see what colour they are. If they are not the normal pink colour but tending towards blue or blue/grey (cyanosis) it may indicate hypoxia i.e. decreased oxygenation of the blood.
There are 10 kinds of people in the world; those who understand binary and those who do not.

lobo, it is hard for me to see, sorry. i check his mouth when i catch him yawning, but then i mostly look for infection that is easy to spot. his tongue has a slightly more purple nyance, but as for the rest of the mouth, im not quite sure where it should be blue and where it should be pink.

the open mouth, i havent seen before. except for the little glitch in his mouth on the side, which is open when relaxed. but the clicking noise is still there, usually when i approach and he feels stressed. hes still in great spirits, begging for treats, but didnt eat his bell pepper.

calling today :/ couldnt get a time by looking online. and its a snowstorm outside =__=
ill be sure to update after the visit, coomassie.

got a vet appointment at 14:40 tomorrow. 57 euro for the visit, and loads of additional costs for samples.

my money flies away.

the snow is a huge problem. ill bring the plastic container, a cotton cloth, and a handwarmer or two for the journey by train.
he will be terrified after this, and hate me so much T__T

One of my leopard geckos had to go to the vet repeatedly during the winter as well as get oral antibiotics and anti-inflammatories for a month. According to the vet, one of the meds tasted like drinking bleach. He didn't speak to us for a while but he has come back around. He is back to his friendly, adorable self now that he feels better.

:/ im sad to say i cant get to the vet until it gets warmer. its too cold outside, even with handwarmers he will have to spend a lot of time outside.
on the good side, he is no longer making the odd sound, and ran around the tank yesterday looking for blueberries.

all in all, im wondering whats going on. maybe he really was too warm?
im thinking i should work on the tank humidity as well. considerably drier the past few days.
