Alpine Blotched Bluey Giving Birth

Hi all, caught one of my Alpine Blotched Blueys in the act of giving birth today. 5 so far from this mother, she is still birthing.

Hope a few of my lizards start doing that,with early wake ups and trying to heat them faster its looking like im going to have to wait till noal time for babies,the northerns were a month early so theres still a chance of that with the others

Scott i lile the grasses in your enclosure,hadnt realised u had lanscaped in there yet,from that vid it looks like its developed well.

Is this normal time for babies from previous years

Great video, thanks for posting! What a cute little blotchie We are hopefully expecting our 1st batch of Northerns early April? Do the gravid females normally drop quickly in succession like that, with not much time in between births?

Nice video Scott! I am very jealous. I have to admit, the first thing I thought was "Oh no! The yolk sac is going to get dirt all over it!" I'm not sure how the wild blueys even survive.

Thanks for the comments. It was interesting that the yolk sack popped out some time later, after the little one had wondered off. She was going to eat it but I retrieved it and the little one eventually ate it.

Richard yeh about 2 weeks later in Bendigo than Tatura, there is a slight difference in temperature (cooler) here to Tatura, although mating was actually earlier this year (1st week of November) the babies were born later. Yeh just some basic planting. I've found that the most reliable combos of fast growing plants that the blueys appreciate Poa.lab (tussock grass), Nodding and Ruby saltbush some Kangaroo Grass etc are the best. Also a few additional saltbush species they seem to be eating the berries already.

Babies are always a joy to see. So how many did this mother have in total?

8 although one had a problem - umbillical pulled its intestines out. So 7 live.

Bummer scott,i had that happen to a newborn stumpy once,tummy split open and innards hanging out,was a solid baby to,heading down to the folks as its the old ladies b,day so will check to see if mine have popped yet,judging on the indoors ones i have a feeling ill be waiting longer,lol
