Jarvis update!

Hi all,

Been a while since I posted an update on my little monster.

Jarvis is now 15 months old, hates me a bit less then when I first brought him home ;)
I wanted to get an opinion on if he looks small or skinny for his age?

He eats every other day, with the occasional treat in between.

Very pretty I like your set up too. Do you have pictures of the whole thing?

He is beautiful, but yes, quite skinny. Have you had him dewormed yet? If not, get on that :)

Heya,

Well the first week after bringing him home, I took a stool sample into my vet to check for parasites, and it came back clean.
Is that the equivalent to deworming? I have not done anything since then.

I feed him a mix of arugula/spinach with carrots or squash with either wet dog food or snails, I slap chop it and serve.
Every other meal I supplement calcium and Vit D3

And thank you!, I do have a picture of his whole setup =)

Yes, the fecal sample is to check for worms. Usually worms are the cause of skinniness in skinks. You could check again to be safe (send it to ReptileKing, he'll check it free because he likes poop), but you've pretty much covered the worm-angle. He could just have a high-metabolism? Maybe offer some fat-building foods and see if he bulks up a bit? Rodents are always great here when I want to pack some extra weight on. But don't panic about it (unless you think he's sick or he's losing weight). You did the worm check, so great job  Hopefully with a bit more time and a great diet he'll put more meat on his bones.

Whew, Okay good. I'm glad the worm angle is covered.
I can tell you.. he is funny about his food.. he roams around looking like he wants to hunt, and find food..
Then when I feed him, he spends literally, 60 seconds eating.. then takes off, and rarely comes back.. he eats very little.

Odd?

So.etimes they just eat a little often, whilst he looks lean he doesnt look overly skinny, cant see hip bones protuding, but a bit more weight cant hurt, this time of year for you they can be picky, rspecially if male, pacing can be a good sign of that, possably in search of a lass

Tail looks very long,i love that, hes a nice looking skink,i wouldnt be to concerned just yet, hows his growth been, have u had it from baby size, hopefully it will eat better for you when spring kicks in and temps are more consistant and testosterone levels drop

Cage looks great to

Thank you :)
I have had him since he was 3 months, he is growing and weights more with each shed, he just doesn't seem to eat much, nor will he fatten up.

I remember when he was such a little thing! Gorgeous! My BTS Koupa has been having similar behavior as in he will only eat small bits of food here and there and then continue roaming his tank, or goes back for a snooze. Not too interested in food right now, but I figure it's normal for this time of year. :)

Yeah late winter early spring can be frustrating feeding wise, some get very picky, but a little often is enough to see them through till they want more

Wow that is a long tail. Not that I know much about skinks, but based on what ive seen and pictures that is indeed long. Hope jarvis puts some weight on for you :)

Lol That quote made my night. This is hilarious and useful.
