Scratching?

Hi, I have been wondering about something, is scratching at the glass to get out a learned behavior? Do your skinks pick it up naturally?

Since they all seem to do it to varying degrees, I have always assumed it is an instinct. I think they are just trying to get past the clear barrier that they don't completely understand. I don't think they are trying to communicate anything, they were just walking that way and hit something that halted their progress. They are trying to move it out of the way so they can continue.

That makes sense, though my skink pushes her head against the glass every once in a while, should I consider that to be her asking to get out?

i take it as restlessness and them wanting to get out and explore more mine do it around mid arvo and thats when i let them out and run around a bit.

Ours doesn't do it on his viv glass, but does it on the sliding glass door. At first, i thought he was wanting out for sunshine. but he does it on the outside too. I think he's thinking ...heck, i don't know ... but I figure it's not too deep of a thought.

Mine dont do it very often as most of them have 3 of the 4 sides blocked with paper, but they do it occasionally on the front though. It looks to me like they dont understand glass and want to go exploring, like others have said.
Glass = invisible force field! I'd be confused too!

Many animals (including humans) do not comprehend the physical properties of glass.
