Copyright is a tricky thing.
When it comes to a school project, there is however a little something called 'Fair Use'. Basically, this allows to use copyrighted materials for a purpose. For example, say if a student created their own poem using only lines from Harry Potter. Now, if the school curriculum based project was to create a poem by manipulating an existing text, youre fine. But if the project was to write a poem, that is copyright infringement.
On the internet, technically everything is off limits unless it is specifically specified that it *is* free to use (Like licensed under Creative Commons).
In this case, you are fine to Google - You need photos of a species of animal that you chose to do your project on, and a section of it will of course require you to show different species - It would be unreasonable to expect you to run around to every zoo in the area

If however, you later on down the track do decide to publish your work for whatever reason, then copyright will come into effect and you will have to swap out the images for your own/ licensed/ permission granted etc images~
Feel free to use any of mine if you wish, if I had more time I would link you~
