New hides!

Postby Kurt » Fri Jan 18, 2013 7:52 pm

I decided to try out some new hides. I just got 3 PVC hide boxes (size large). I put 2 in Apollo's tank, one on the hot side and one on the cool side under the water dish. I put the last hide in Rocko's tank under his water. They both seem to love them so far!

The only reservation I would have is the possibility of emissions by having the PVC box as a basking spot with the lamp heat source so close. The risk of PVC light fittings is well known, i.e. their propensity to melt which suggests to me the use of natural materials such as slate may be a safer alternative.

I was wrong about it being PVC. It's actually polypropylene. I'm not sure the properties of that type of plastic though? Any thoughts?

Here's a link to the actual product I bought.
