Dinner ideas

Just a few shots of yesterday's meal. It consists of carrot, broccoli flowers and stem, mint, courgette, pak choy, kangaroo mince, red pepper and a small amount of red cabbage ... I think that's all. It didn't last more than 10 mins, even though it looked enough to feed an army of skinks, the shinglebacks hoovered it up and looked about ready for more. Definitely a popular mix.

Depends - I've heard basil will stimulate the appetite of picky eaters, but I've had mixed results with herbs. Some seem to find the taste too strong. Cilantro especially was enough stop some of mine from eating the meals, most herbs seemed hit or miss. Doesn't hurt to try.

not spices, these are some herbs

I'm confused then. I know basil is an herb, but I consider it a spice as well. Same with things like parsley, rosemary, oregano, etc... What is the difference between a spice and an herb?

Herbs are from the green or leafy part of plants. Spices are from the roots, stem, seeds etc.

No complaints, meaning, of course, that nothing is left, but I don't see them particularly crazy for them and picking them out either. I use it more for its high nutritional value, being rich in vitamins A and C and the antioxidant, betacarotene, which are good for cardiovascular and eye health, in particular.

In people, studies have shown mint to be an appetite stimulant- not that my skinks need any encouragement!

how interesting about the basil and mint! i have been debating on growing things like Thyme, basil, and catnip, I may have to add mint to the herbs I would like to grow outside this year!
