it was my highest wish to see them awake on christmas, and somehow they were. im thinking my parents may have turned the heat from antarctic to norwegian (no offence). either way, both were out when i woke up!
i noticed litchie has lost way too much weight. not sure if its seeing the other skink in comparison (because he seems shorter too, so yeah, its affecting me), but i really think he looks too thin. the temps will stay above 0 outdoors so ill start feeding immediately and get an effective night bulb (as i should have done). he was very healthy looking and awake. not interested in food, but drank by himself and basked all day. all good. very much his usual self, his scales felt dry like last winter :/
the other skink needs a name. nothing sticks, and hes such a cute little scaredy cat. very easily spooked, very suspicious, very food motivated. he basks until 9 in the evening, and falls asleep on the basking spot. adorable.
im worried about the thing on his tail, which feels like a fat collection under his scales. its on the side, at the middle of the tail. i have observed it and its not growing, or moving, and regular colour. doesnt look like mbd to me at all, since its on the side, so its unsettling. the onlt normal thing i can think of is if hes injured his tail and it healed oddly, but its perfect othetwise, so i think not. abcess and other things are less happy to think about..... vet visit will come in spring, but he needs to calm down first.
to be quite honest i think the tail thing has to do with his overweight. te previous owner said he keeps him a lot fatter usually, and it is strange if everything was okay after being kept as such *sigh*. i wished i could take a good photo of his tail and show you, but i really stress him enough just existing in his precence. the poto was a sneaky one. i think ill try get a photo anyway....i need some ideas.
so, this is a half hearted christmas hello from me and my skinks, one that gotta loose weight and gain security and one that needs to gain weight and stop being so charmy, but i feel hopeful about everything
