BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

Given the discussion about gravid females I thought I'd post some early gravid photos.

I have five large female alpine blotchies, which I believe that 4 are gravid, with one (Pat) a maybe but doubtful.






Note that Pat is still a little on the skinnier side of the equation as she hasnt put on weight properly from last year, may have taken a bit much out of her to have babies 2 years in a row. But will wait and see. You can see she has not filled out around the hips and is typical of a female that is less likely to become gravid.

Great pictures Scott. Your girls all look great. I dream of the day I can say "I think 4 of my 5 adult female blotchies are gravid"!

Looking good scott,elkies nice looking to,like her patterning,pat still looks solid,who knows i guess,they can take the odd year off,she may be a late ballooner,lol

When do u think they will drop now your in a different climate

Hey Richard, they mated earlier this year for some reason so I expect around the same time, early Feb. Will see eh. That is, given that the conditions here are generally a bit cooler, although will be about 40C today.

This was Elke as a baby, I kept her because of the unusual pattern and colouring - see her face. She was one of Liz's babies.

That one was Pat above, she is also in need of a shed, I can post some photos after. She was also very big as a baby.

Richard since you mentioned it. :-) Pat shed today so managed to get some photos. Note that here is the photo I took of the babies together when we received them from Colin.

They all look good, particularly after a winter shed when they change away from the yellow blotches to more of the salmon/orange colour. I have all three in various stages of shedding out their yellow today. The other 5 pets are all moulting as well so I guess that means they have all decided it is now summer.

I thought it would be interesting to see what she turned out like.
