Found a baby friend in the yard- pic heavy

So while out in the yard with my skink (partner takes his skinks and i take my adult out in the arvo when he gets home), Crowley found a friend. He/she looks as though it has had a bit of a rough time with missing scales all over its head and one or two on its body. thinking about taking him in as my partner is swapping one of his for a dragon. This will give me 2 baby skinks and an adult skink and my partner 3 adult skinks (legal limit)
Pictures show how tiny he is in comparison to my crowley who was also once that tiny back in august... hard to believe he was that small now. It also shows how dark Crowley is. majority of skinks around here are the lighter colour that this baby is.
When taking the picture for comparison sake, Crowley was very interested in the baby (i was cautious) but the baby hissed and puffed and opened that mouth right up. so Crowley being the big spoilt sook she is turned and ran off lol. big baby!

Looks like its had a lucky start

The pic with crowley is a great example of how much babies grow when u keep them warm and active over winter,compared to a late season produced wild one,he is alot lighter than crowley,though crowleys a dark bugger,lol

They look all eyes when they are little! Great to see the pictures, but since he's all healed up, there is no reason to take him in. He'll do fine in the wild, most of the scarring looks superficial and shouldn't be a bother to him as he grows up.

Yep Crowley is very very dark. Everyone comments on that down here.
I'm thinking I want to keep him Lea. I've only got 2 skinks myself and my partner has 3 now. And because down here wild catching is the easiest way to keep a skink as there aren't many breeders since tere is no profit with reptiles being free to all with a permit down here.
And he seems very happy. No visible signs of stress so far. Is eating and spotted him drinking. Is comfortable sitting and sleeping on my leg. Temper and hissing has even stopped. And of have to relocate him somewhere new anyway as his home was being wiped out and built on.

You can just take an animal from the wild? Woah, Tasmania has some weird ways of protecting its native wildlife.

Yep, it's pretty much the ony way to get reptiles down here. Not many breeders at all. It's frowned upon and reported by the reptile group if someone is doing it that they think doesn't have a permit or doesn't know what they are doing. The laws down here are incredibly twisted for reptiles. Can only have a maximum of 6 of the same species as well and no selling or buying what so ever. Pet stores are not allowed to have or sell them either, only stock reptile foods and accessories. Seems to work for us so far though, no serious problems or issues with reptiles. They even mentioned in the news how some reptile species population is growing. I do find it wrong that anyone can get a permit though. And that the permit is free.
