Hey I'm new to the forum. just got my new Northern from Mel(super helpful by the way).

I set up the tank about a week before I got him, and everything was perfect. far end was 75 mid was 80-90 and basking spot was 100.
heres my problem the little guy wont come out unless i dig him up. i gave him about 2 days to settle in and nothing so i started waking him up in the morning, once he was awake he would stay up for the day explore feed and bask, you know lizard stuff. 3rd day i checked the temps again because i live in a basement suite and have no control of the indoor temperature. upstairs neighbours jacked up the heat to around 75 putting the tanks low end temo to around 78-79 as soon as any lights turn on even the fluorescents and that after i shut off the MV light. so now all he has is a exxo terra hood with the four compact florescent and one 50 watt red basking light witch i used to leave on at night when the house was a normal 70 F. but now am turning off at night now. Basically is the reason he doesn't come out to bask or even wake up because the tanks to warm or is due to stress or could it be just plain old brumation?
:helpme:

Most likely it's stress, and just plain old laziness. If they have food, and water, and warmth, there's no reason for them to leave their safe little burrow. As they settle in, and grow bigger, they definitely become less reclusive - they'll come out just to see what's going on around them. But that can take a while. Concentrate on him eating and growing for now. Take him out when you want to visit, but otherwise don't worry too much if he likes to hide.

Usually if they're too hot they'll be active trying to get out, or laying at the coldest part of the tank, or soaking in the water dish.

I don't think he'll be trying to brumate. They've been very active and hungry so far, even when my room's been getting cold.

The area in witch he is burrowed is the coolest spot in the tank.

Generally, reptiles will take at least a week to settle in. The younger the reptile, the longer it takes. He may also be basking when you aren't around. Give him a bit more time.
