Increased digging before shed?

I've noticed that with Mortimer, he's not that much of a digger. So long as he has his three hides in his tank, he's a happy guy and doesn't really dig a whole lot.

However, before shedding, when his colors become very dark and drab, he just digs and digs and digs and digs and digs! Its rather irritating when he starts up at 3 am and I've got a 7 am class. But is this normal? And if so, would anyone have any speculation that could cause this behavior?

I'm pretty sure that it's normal for them to be digging/burrowing more before shedding. When you say digging to you mean like messing up their bedding and burrowing kind of thing?

Maybe he's trying to find a bit more humidity or different temperature range (cooler?).

mine do it all the time. even round in circles trying to get the shed started and then off completely. they even sit there and rub themselves on bricks on the outside of my house if i take them outside. its completely normal :)
