Natures Gift Dog Food

Hey everyone

Whilst tottering about the shops, I inadvertently found myself in the pet aisle, when I noticed we had a new brand of pet food!

I had a read of it, and I thought it sounded ok, but just thought I would chuck it up here to see what everyone else thought -

So its called natures gift. It comes in a variety of flavours - Lamb, beef, beef and liver, veal, chicken etc. Aus made, owned and sourced, no preservatives or additives, all natural, real meat, that sort of jazz.

Ingrediants - (Lamb flavoured)
Lamb, chicken, prebiotics, calcium, soluable fibre, gelling agents, vitamins & minerals inc. B1, B3, B6, C, E, D12, D3, Folic acid

Protein 10%
Fat min. 2.5%
Crude Fibre 0.3%
Salt (occurring naturally) 0.1%

Ive used the odd can of it,here and there,seems ok,but i still use pedigree or chum predominantly ,so cant comment on long term usage,ive forgotten how it looks but from memory it looks ok

I opened up the lamb one - It has the consistency of polony and actually smelt better than most pet foods Zeke seemed to like it, and it comes in sizes more suitable for one skink, so I think I may actually stick to it if everyone thinks the nutrition, ingredients etc sound ok~

Yes, that has gone down very well with some very reluctant eaters. It seemed like a pretty good all rounder and even got some greens and veggies swallowed up in a mix. Good you have it now, Nae. It's quote a substantial rescue remedy for malnourished ones, too.

All canned pet foods - cat and dog - that I have seen contain it, however this is one of the first where you cant blatantly see it. (I know it stands out quite a bit in Pedigree especially)

I've read and read jeff's post, but I don't know what the hidden meaning is

I do understand Nae, though. There are gelling agents in everything, natural, or not. It must be compulsory in Australia
But, they do use agar, which is made from seaweed and less icky than the animal by products. It's possible they use the healthier option ... although, perhaps improbable, given that throwing in one derived from pig skin and bones is likely to be cheaper and easier.

What is confusing about my post? There is not much gelling agent in this food. I love gelling agents. I would like too see more. Other than that, the food looks good.

Hi Nae - I have given Natures Gift to Alisabeth quite a few times and she always gobbles it up, her favs being the beef and barley, the lamb and the kangaroo. Our dogs also quite like it as well. It seems to be of good quality, compared to some of the ones out there which none of them would touch

That's brilliant! Dog food with kangaroo in it. (Sorry I'm Dutch, so a kangaroo sounds really exotic to me. Especially when it's in a can of dog chow)

Sounds excellent Chihuahua, and Neil Roo meat is actually a pretty popular pet food here - The smell of it whilst it is being cooked however is simply....ugh

I've been using the roo based one for a couple of years now. More protein and less fat than others

haha I knew exactly what was meant by gelling agents...I cringed when I read it, I HATE that jiggly goop thats *sad face* not jello. Pedigree is seriously bad about the non gravy versions being about 1/2 inch of goo on top X_X

Oh the smell is horrible!!!

I have to open all the doors and windows if I cook a batch of Roo Mince!!! The things we do for our pets!! lol
