Thank you for saying he looks northern, Richard

I can't ID easterns to save my life, and I have no idea why Bomber looks so odd. I'd like to find out if it's inheritable by breeding him, but at the same time I don't want to muddy the northern pond so to speak.
Anyone want to venture a guess as to what will happen if I breed him to an unreleated northern? Or back to a parent? Do you think the babies will look classic northern? Like Bomber? A mix?

Cool variety, and nice looking skinks. I don't see any eastern whatsoever in Bomber. If you had suggested IJ, I could understand where you were coming from, but not eastern.
Does Harris have a re-gen tail? It looks like it must be, but if it isn't she actually looks more eastern to me than Bomber (not that she looks eastern, the tail is just more eastern length/proportion than northern).

She does have a regen tail

Thanks both of you, feel lots better about Bomber. I was afraid he was some kind of throwback. Obviously my Eastern ID skills are extremely sub-par; I see yellow on the side and it looks like an Eastern to me. I would still like to breed him in the future, but didn't want to mix Eastern looks into my Northerns.
For breeding, if he's male I would like to breed him back to his mother, and to an unrelated female:
- If the babies look like him, awesome - new look for a purebred BTS.
- If the babies look classicly Northern, also awesome - I don't have to worry about messing up the classic Northerns, and I'll try breeding him to an offspring (from unrelated female) later as a genetic test.
- If the babies look mixed, not so great - they'll be held back as pets-only. I love his unique look, but I see it as an all-or-nothing deal. Mixes just confuse everything.

I don't think Bomber looks particularly unusual, but I would not purchase one like him unless I new what stock it came from. Even then, I wonder if I'd have trouble moving the resulting offspring because most people want classic northerns. A few folk early on were skeptical of my first Northern's purity as he has black forearm speckling, but that is quite common in Northerns. So theoretically we could produce something that looks almost like an IJ with time.
I remember a member on here with a Northern that traced back to the Honolulu Zoo bloodlines that looked quite similar?(very faded black portholes). She bred it with a female with striking black portholes and the babies came out looking fairly normal.

bombers pattern has changed a lot!
i however disagree with critter, the pattern bomber has is very unique imo, much more unique than just the difference between northerns from the same litter usually have (based on what ive learned so far).
in particular the orange sides being smaller, rounder and more marked, and the very broad back pattern that is very "undefined".
i really like the thin black lines around the orange sides.

They all look true northerns, nothing like the Easterns from SA. Does Harris have a dent in his nose?
Lovely skinks, Mel. You must be very happy with them. Pink T should be proud of them, too!
