update on my skinks!

I fed dog food for the first time, here are the results.

I tried to put the gravy on the veggies in hopes that I don't have to finely chop them anymore... I made too much so I fed Apollo the remainder as a snack.

Also, I ended the quarantine period and switched up the tanks a little bit so I thought I'd give a little update. The baby northern has a large exo terra cave on the hot side, a fancy reptile wood, a buddha hide, and lots of fake foliage to burry under. Apollo, my adult merauke has a new corona beer hide on the hot side, a half log, some organic wheat grass, and lots of fake foliage as well... Hope the wheat grass isn't too controversial, I'm just trying it out. He's been exploring/trampling it a bit so I'm not sure how long it will last.

They both look great! Never offered that wheat grass to the skinks but my parrot and cat both loved it.

Overall I think the skinks have taken a liking to the dog food. Greens seem to go down easier since the gravy from the dog food covers them and makes them tasty. Also, I think I've taken a liking to the ease of using dog food. Since the veggies aren't being picked out as much, I don't have to chop them up as finely which saves me TONS of time. I cut out some blades of wheat grass from Apollo's cage and used them along with arugula as the greens.

I forgot to dust the food with calcium until partway thru the meal so I panicked and dusted while he was eating and ended up getting a little on his head

My baby northern just finished up a shed so I thought I'd snap some shots of him outside. His side blotches are a nice bright yellow-orange and the bands on his back are a tan/light brown with a nice orange tint.

I hope to breed him! I don't have the knowledge/experience or the room for a mate yet. But if/when the time is right I would like to. I would also like to breed the baby northern when the time is right.

I think the next step for me will be upgrading the tanks to 4x2. I'm hoping to get a stack for 4 4x2's so I can add some mates for my guys. There is actually one on craigslist right now but I'd have to sell my current tanks ASAP b/c I have no room to store any extra tanks. I guess I should get on that before the stacks are sold out!

Since he's a big boy now, Apollo eats once/week. Last week I tried to put some prickly pair fruit with his meal and he was picky and barely ate. Needless to say, he was starving today. I put more greens in his meal today than usual as a mini experiment to see if he'd spend the time to pick them out or eat anything he could grab quickly. The results were that a hungry skink will eat greens no problem

Apollo is just stunning! Also, I've noticed the same thing about dog food with "gravy". They inhale the greens because it tastes just like dog food.
