Well, the day I have been waiting for, for a LONG time, has finally come. Two perfect little blotchies arrived yesterday morning, and I couldn't be happier. I took a few quick pictures in their enclosures, but I didn't want to take them outside until they have a chance to settle in a bit. The lighting is terrible. You can't tell how great they look from the pictures, but I couldn't wait to get some up anyway. Thanks Kim!

Oh so cute These are the only other skink I really want to have!! We have 3 Northern who have captured our hearts. The Alpine Blotchies are at the top of my list if I every choose to add more to the collection! Your two are stunning, congrats!

Excellent job, Kim, you produced some fine blotched blueys. Jeff, you must be ecstatic! And by the looks of them, you won't have any trouble with feeding, they both look like they have healthy appetites. What wonderful skinks! I'm so happy for you, Jeff! Are you looking to breed with either of these in the future?

You're going to love these Jeff. I don't have any experience other than with Highland Blotchies so I don't know first hand about other BTS but I can say that over the past 4 years my 3 have all developed individual and very distinctive personalities.

Norm, after only a few hours of observing them, mostly from a distance, I can confidently say that these are very different from other bts species I have kept. They exude a confidence that I have not seen from others. The way they boldly and deliberately explored every inch of their new enclosures, and really didn't flinch when I came into the room to watch them, was awesome! They have some attitude, which is endearing. I am as excited about living with these guys as I have ever been about any skinks. So far in my limited time wiith them, I would describe them as a "more active" version of shinglebacks. They are just crazy cool, and I could not possibly be more happy with them.

Jeff, our first two were inquisitive and confident after a couple of days even though they were very young and only weighed 40+ grams. From about the third day they would start eating from their dish before it was fully in place.

Clancy was different because of her circumstance and would run behind her plants or even burrow into the substrate as soon as the enclosure door started to slide. Mostly she seemed to be frightened by an arm reaching in but is almost completely over that now. I recently had to change her basking lamp which is internally mounted and she made it more difficult by climbing up my arm to help.

The little wildies we had living near our door a few years ago never seemed fazed by our presence and even got to coming over and started to eat before we finished putting some food out for them. The confidence might be genetic.

I really hope so Norm! I know you can't really tell what a skink is like from the first day or two, but these guys are just too cool so far! I hope they stay like they have been!

Unless you plan on torturing them, Jeff, they'll most likely stay similar in their nature. I would love to still have a blotched, or two, they are unique in their character, but not unlike the shinglebacks, in quirkiness. I'm imagining you spending hours watching these two in the next few months! Will you let them brumate this winter, leaving it up to them, I mean, if they decide to?

Brad, it would take at LEAST 3 dozen eggs to get one of these guys from me.

Lea, I don't plan to brumate them this year. I know they would probably handle it fine because they are in such good condition, but I don't see the point. They are forced to brumate immediately after being born in the wild, and some survive it, and some don't. I plan to do everything I can to make sure these guys have the most comfortable life possible. No unnecessary risks going on here!
