Shes here!!!

Postby SnakeCharmr728 » Thu Aug 30, 2012 12:31 am

Lacey arrived safely this morning! :ohyes: She is beautiful! A little smaller than what I was expecting and not as lightly colored as in her photo on fauna but that could change but all is okay and I LOVE HER!, Shes 2011 baby so I still get to watch her grow some. Shes in a 4x2x2 wood cage and I sure had fun decorating it for her last night before she got here, and it allowed me enough time to make sure her temps were just perfect. I set an alarm this morning to get up early to turn her cage on so it would be warm for her when she arrived. FEDEX was 40mins late and I was impatiently waiting at the door, peering out the window waiting! Kinda peeved me though because the FEDEX driver ran the doorbell and instantly turned and started walking back to his truck with her, literally did not wait a single second for me to come to the door. Luckily! I was right there.Perhaps he was afraid of what could be in the box label "Harmless Live Reptile" and wanted to get back to his truck with box in hand? I dunno! but grrr! Anyways,
I let her relax in her enclosure for about half the day and then took her out to say hi just for a few minutes (she was very behaved, not a single huff or puff) and she eagerly took 2 blueberries from my hands. I offered her greens and dog food but she wasn't interested, but I don't blame her, she had one hell of a day.
Shes been buried in her aspen or under her half-log hide, I plan on letting her settle for at least a week before really interacting with her (ohhhh but its so tempting, I just want some bluey cuddles!)

Do you guys think shes an IJ, Merauke or a mix? I noticed that she does not have the long tail that Merauke's have....

Here's some photos, I will be posting more often so check back and get to know Lacey.

Congratulations. You have a very nice looking skink! Keep in mind that some really smart skink people think that IJ's and meraukes are the same thing, but based on the things that are generally used to seperate the two types, I would label yours a merauke.

The tricky thing though, is that the scientific name for meraukes is T.g.evanescens, which means "faded" bluetongue skink, which really doesn't describe the appearance of this skink. I still think it is the best thing to call it though.

Congratulations! I would also say yours is a Merauke. She looks to be in pretty good body condition too. A skink's color can depend on where they are in the shed cycle, so keep that in mind.

What a beautiful tank! Lucky skink :D

ID: Newrauke  Newer-looking Merauke. As opposed to the classic (pale, thin-band, long tail) Merauke. She's an extremely pretty skink <3

Thanks everyone!
She came out and ate her whole meal today, I caught her right as she was finishing --- grabbed the camera and snapped a few photos before she slowly scooted backwards into her hide. Shes a shy girl but I know that shes still adjusting to her new surroundings.

Not the best quality pics as I took them with the doors closed so the glass made a glare.

Oh what a cutie!!! I have a soft spot for meraukes lol. And great enclosure as well! She will be quite the happy skink. (also about what you said with not looking as light as in pics, if she is closer to shed she could get a LOT darker, so just wait till she sheds, otherwise it could have just been the flash or lighting in the pics, but either way  beautiful) Her tail looks normal length to me, also females many times have shorter tails but wider bodies.
