Bling my Skink!

Hey Everyone,

Got a few more questions (not just for me, but for my friend as well). We want to pimp out our babies with nice collars or harnesses. Does anyone know of a good size to buy for an adult? Do they even work, or will they slide right out? If anyone can provide a measurement of their adult skink neck circumference, that would be amazing!

as they have no shoulders, they cannot keep a collar on. theyll just walk right through it.
if you make a collar and it fits, it is most likely restraining the bts swallowing and breathing.

bts are not good pets to decorate.

Collars definately aren't going to work. If you find a harness that does I'd be more concerned with functionality than look! Maybe papercraft hats for photos instead. They are light, disposable, and won't cause harm to your skink (though he might try to kill it, who knows xD). I don't think skinks need any bling to look bling tho, they are very beautiful lizards!

Don't think badly of my friend here, it was my idea to ask . But in all seriousness, how do you take your skinks outside? Neither of us have a yard so I was thinking of taking them to a nearby park. Wouldn't want them running away though, figured a harness would be the most secure way to go about it. Guess maybe we will have to get a foldable play pen or something

I try to take them to wide open areas where I can just follow them around, or contained areas where there's no escape. You want to be by the skink at all times (birds, cats, etc can attack extremely quickly). Harnesses are never fully secure. The playpen idea is good too, just always supervise.

collars are maybe not so good, but I've seen some people use harnesses for beardies and other lizards. Only reptiles I've seen collars on were big tegus. You have to be careful with slick scaled critters like blueys though, even with the harness. Supervision is always key, harness or no harness.

Another good idea I heard of was getting a plastic kiddie pool and cutting out the bottom so you have a nice solid walled area to let them roam in, under close supervision still of course. But I guess that isn't a very portable solution for what you guys need...

I guess a collapsible metal pen would work if it had a very small gaps in the wire, otherwise your skinks could probably wiggle right through! But then you have to make sure they are not big enough to get part of the way through then stuck.

The only problem I see with harnesses is that blueys have such little legs they can just crawl out of them!

Thanks for the responses everyone! Guess my real reason for wanting a harness isn't because I don't plan on supervising, I want it as a precaution...just in case my skink wigs out for some reason and makes a run for it. I'll start looking into play pens, if not that kiddie pool idea is pretty good!
