What kind of substrate is it on? I don't think I have ever seen that before.
Also I don't think I have ever heard of a "Halmahera" BTS before. Maybe it is just because I am a newbie though... I am interested and hope to find out more about this!

the substrate is millet. I've used it and liked it a lot, but lots of people on this forum are against it.

i don't know the correct terminology of how to explain it, but halmaera is a locale of indonesian bts. they have a unique look to them.

$250 is about the going rate - for a pet shop. They have to feed all the other animals that don't sell - so they need to jack the prices up.

Just wondering what the opposition is on the substrate - and why it is liked.

Some of the people on the forum think it may cause impaction since it is a loose substrate. They also thought it might cause a respiratory infection because it doesn't absorb any liquids.

When I used millet my bluey either didn't eat any of the millet or was able to digest them fully. There was never millet in his poop, so I wasn't too worried about impaction. The respiratory infection might be true? I never had an issue with it but I could see it happening if the tank wasn't cleaned regularly. I liked millet a lot because it was SO easy to clean. I had a scoop that would pick up any poop but sift out the millet.

When I bought my bts, I was given the millet for free from the reptile shop. After trying it out, my opinion of millet is that its a good substrate to keep a bts on. When I ran out, I switched to coco husk bark since it was cheaper and looked more natural.

I'm against Millet. My Indo was on Millet at the time of purchase and she pooped out "big" clumps of the stuff for a good two weeks.

$250 is the price I "regularly" see for ANY Bluey species (when they have them, which is pretty rare) in petstores.

Yeah, I would agree that $250 isn't an outrageous price. All of my local pet stores charge a minimum of $200, and those are all just WC Indos who generally have a nasty attitude...
I think you are lucky if you can find a BTS for under $200 in a pet store. :|

Are you sure it came from Deer Fern Farms? Because to my knowledge he only had 6 babies. Two of which he kept, two I bought and two he had for sale at the Expo on Saturday.

lol T9, I almost put that they should contact Doug and make sure...however, it is possible somebody bought a baby at the expo, and then dumped it at the pet store.

I didn't confirm with Doug, but thats what House of Reptiles told me at the expo. Also, I'm pretty sure Doug had 4 for sale at the expo...

I don't they bought it at the expo and then dumped it at the pet store.. The OP originally posted this on June 24th and the expo was on September 18th.
