Just a couple of pictures of Yoshi after his shed. He was my first blue tongue, I've had him a couple of months and this was his first shed in my care. PS, can anyone tell gender from these pics?

Male...maybe? :noknow: Differeniating gender in skinks can be very difficult. How old is (s)he? If (s)he is old enough, (s)he may start producing hemipenes sometimes when they poo. That's a big indicator :D

Edit: I forgot to mention, but your skink is gorgeous regardless!

He is about 2 years old, I'm not exactly sure because he came from a reptile rescue but that was the estimate. I have read about hemipenes but he's extremely shy so I rarely see him do anything, I doubt he would poo while I was watching. It doesn't really matter what gender he is as he will never be bred, I was just curious.

Thanks, he is pretty cute!

He looks quite a bit younger than 2 years old in my opinion....looks quite young to me. I'd guess male. Cute colors :]

Edit: how big is yours? my merauke looks around the same size as your skink. mines 16 inches long last time i measures at the beginning of the month and he's only 6 months old. its hard to tell from pictures

If I had to guess I would say male too, but of course I could easily be wrong. If it is a male you might be able to see some plugs soon?

But I have to agree with everyone else, (s)he is gorgeous either way! :)

Gorgeous! Not sure how he looks younger than 2, I wouldn't doubt the age guesstimate. I'd agree with ML on the male call. :D

Yoshi is 20.5" STL, 12.5" SVL, and 657 grams. He may be a little smaller than normal but his diet was not good before I got him, he was eating only dog food, no veggies, and occasionally some of the tree frogs that he was living with, which explains why he was given to a rescue organization! I'm still having trouble getting him to eat "good" food but am holding out of giving him junk again as I really want him to eat his veggie mix.

it could just be how the picture was, he just looks tiny to me without really being compared to anything lol. its hard for me to judge size in pics sometimes

icantseethe pics, also re size and age,it varies,an example is how i raise blotchies compared to scott and even kim, they get theres adult size in 12 months, mine take 4 to 5 years to reach young adult size,i must starve them, lol,i keep mine outdoors if born early enough,so they hibernate for up to 5 months, sometimesi keep them indoors for first winter, they still take a while to get adult size as i like to drop temps to

point being its next to impossable to tell age by the size of them its very easy to let them take a few years to reach adult size, iffed and kept warm its also easy to have them quite big and breeding by a year of age
