Some people like to torture themselves. What I would give to go back in time and KEEP these! I believe this was the second year they produced. Before the age of digital cameras, at least at my home.

Its a good thing we like you Casey, cuz I'm really starting to doubt your sanity!

These guys are gorgeous! The babies are so ridiculously goofy looking!! Those giant heads, and scrawny little tails- they look like cartoon characters. What did you find them to be like personality-wise?

Frustrating that selling animals usually means they are never seen again. Thats not how it should be.

 Thanks. Well, in my defense, this was many years ago and I had my hands quite full with Nephrurus and Pythons. Still, it won't happen again! These guys were generally nervous but would do ok in a group providing the cage was large with a lot of hides. The babies were adorable. When I first noticed babies in the cage, I did a double-take then moved in for a closer look. The babies all flashed their tongues and flattened out.

 We've all made decisions that we'd change in hindsight. Very cool!! Amazing how much more readily available these guys were back then, when they weren't very unusual or interesting so people parted with them. Thanks for sharing these!

Wow, awesome skinks! I am curious, why were the centralians easier to get in the 1990's. It was still illegal; to import them then correct?

This group came from a European collection. They were imported legally into the United States, inspected and cleared by USFW and US Customs. Same with my Shinglebacks, btw.

nice casey,a few of mine seem to have gone down the cool end, hopefully starting to brumate, did you cycle them more like pythons or go the full shut down

you must have some serious kick mark wound scarring, lol, but on the plus, had the pleasure of keeping and breeding them, would have been cool finding

Hey Richard. I ran the skinks on a shortened light cycle with a basking spot turned down to about 30 degrees C. (86*F) for about 5-6 hours a day. This was from November 1st to about New Years Day. The background temperature was about 22 degrees C. (low 70's F) for the daily high temp. but most of the day it was in the high teens (mid 60's F). At night, everything was off. The temp dropping as low as 15 degrees C. (59*F). I rarely saw the skinks out during the cooling which lasted only 2 months and I did not feed them during this time. Some days might have been warmer and some cooler, depending on the local weather. As you know, these guys like it bright and hot :hot: so I was a bit anxious to bring them out of winter.

One of my friends who bought about a dozen of the babies shut them down altogether once they were to breeding size. He had great success with them. He then sold everything to a guy in New York and to a reptile "dealer" in Florida. The man in New York had some good results breeding them and a couple of people have had luck within the past few years. I think many of the members of the secret society have them stockpiled them.

Watch the humidity. We're talking Shingleback low. 8)
I've heard of some getting sick or worse  but you'll do great! I was a nervous wreck then and even now with the Shinglebacks during their cooling!

sweet casey, thats how i cycle the northerns, and how im going to cycle the centralians, gets cold here,so basking temps drop nicely with out needing to switch light wattage
and back ground temps fall dramaticlly, plus i dont offer night heat so gets quite cold

i feel it gives them the option of picking the right temp to brumate in,mind u,like the northerns, the centralians seem to go coil up down the cool end to,hopefully with a few adults this season might see some success, they all seem to be going to the cool end already, bit earlier then last season, but probably more in sync with there wild counterparts

i had a feeling the members of the secret society might be doing well with them, and there would be quite a few animals about not known about

makes you wonder what else is out there

That you were able to BREED these back in the 90's with so little information available is astounding.

Did you get any advice, or formulate a method based on their geographic range temperatures and mix in a little other reptile breeding experience?
