possibly brumating - do i disturb to clean enclosure?

Postby amb44 » Sat May 12, 2012 1:28 pm

Hello everybody,

Again I have questions! Helo has been slowing down for the past couple of weeks although I've still been seeing him or seeing evidence that he's been moving about everyday. I now haven't seen him for a couple of days and his food has gone untouched so I think he may be hunkering down for the winter, or at least having a good sleep. This is fine, but his enclosure needs a clean. It's been about 6 weeks now due to my bad timing and hassles with getting new Carefresh, and although I spot clean when I see it I'm assuming I've missed at least something plus there's still some shed since I left it knowing his enclosure would be getting cleaned soon (if this is bad please let me know so I don't leave it next time for as long).

My actual question is whether cage cleaning is an important enough reason to disturb him, or should I just pick up all the shed and leave it until I see him next? Also I must admit to some mild paranoia - is it ok to have a quick search just to give me peace of mind that he's alive, or should I really just contain my nerves and let him get on with it?

Thanks so much for all your knowledge and help (and patience)!

I wouldn't worry about cleaning the cage and just pick up the bits of shed etc. I find Onyxia only needs a thorough cage clean a couple of times a year. I check on him every couple of weeks or so to see if he's still alive when brumating lol. Don't know if I should or not but it gives me peace of mind!
