BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

Hello...

Barry has been mite free for the past week. I have no seen any in the "hospital age" and I have no seen any on him or in the water baths. I am going to give him a 3rd NIX treatment today. Do you think it is okay to finally place him back into a new tank with real substrate and decorations? (FINALLY!!!?????)

probably should be ok mate,just keep an eye on him the next month or so just in case

The full life cycle of a mite is 45 days. I would probably keep him in the hospital tank that long just to be on the safe side.

that is counted from the day you find absolutely none, so its not been 45 days, but 7 x'D

maybe you're right... probably best to just wait and make sure there are none...

oh yes, you can NEVER be too careful with mites. If you are able to see ONE (1) mite, you are already dealing with a huge infestation.

yeah.. i hear you... hose BUGGERS hide pretty well... hey say for every 1 you find there are probbaly about 25 ohers you can't see. This has been a really obnoxious and annoying task! lol

Assuming he becomes re-infected with the mites.. or still has them and I just have not spoteed them yet.. what would you do next? I have done.. baths, sprays, oil baths, NIX... I guess bring him to th vet finally? They all want to injec him with invermectin.... wont that kill him.

no,thats another method to eridicate mites,they wouldnt use that if it would kill him

dont stress to much,theres a good chance they wont re infest him,and if they do,just do the treatment again,or try a different mite killer,i dont use baths or any thing like that,i think over there u get prevent a mite in aerosol cans, which sounds like what we have in australia,that stuff works a treat

Okay.. will do. I have preventmite. Its only used to spray in the cage/tank without the reptile or food/h20 in the enclosure. Air out 20minutes and place animal food back into tank. Lets see what happens...
