Hi everyone! I'm brand new to the site; I've been perusing the care sheet page for a few days while doing some research into various species of reptile. I've owned herps of various kinds for several years - mostly adopting animals that other people could no longer keep or didn't want, which meant I usually got sickly animals that didn't live longer than 2-3 years after I took them in. I stopped taking in new animals a while ago, and now my house is occupied only by me and my cat.
I miss having small pets, so I've been doing some research and decided that a blue tongued skink is just the critter I'm looking for. I'd like to adopt a Northern if I can, but for now I'm just in the planning stage.
With that in mind, I've designed a 36"x36"x12" terrarium. Three sides are plywood, the bottom and 2" up each interior side would be covered in a vinyl or similar covering for easy cleaning, the front side will have glass, and the top will have a hinged lid with screening stapled on strong enough that it won't break if my cat manages to hop up there. The lid will also have a latch on either side to prevent the BTS from getting out or my cat from getting in by pushing the lid up.
Now, my question is this: Is one viewing side acceptable, or should I build in two or three viewing sides instead? Additionally, is there any advice anyone can give me about choosing a reputable breeder if I were to buy from a reptile show? I have no plans for purchase right now - I'll think about that when I have the habitat ready.

hi mate,welcome to the forum
caging is good with just 1 veiwing panel,eg glass front,can make them feel more secure,especially newly aquired ones
theres quite a few good breeders,and your coming up to baby season as we speak,which can run a few months,depending on when the breeders warm there animals and breed them,theres a section on this site of reccomended breeders
someone may post a link of it for you
with reptile expo,s/shows you have to be wary,as alot of folk claim they are captive bred,but in fact they are imported babies,or babies from imported adults that are wild caughts,though a few good breeders do go to shows as well,so always good do your homework there
