Gravid Northerns

Some of my female northerns are getting fairly close to giving birth, so I set them all up in their nursery tanks today. I thought I would make a quick post on how they are going. The current weights and days of gestation are all as of today, May 2nd. Sorry for the poor quality phone pictures, I was just hoping to show the difference in how they look while gravid. Some look like they are about to burst, while others don't look gravid at all. Based on the history of these females, I expect all of them to give birth at around 110 days gestation.

Nancy - 93 days, 778 grams. Total weight gain: 109 grams



Anika - 89 days, 729 grams. Total weight gain: 126 grams



Michelle - 93 days, 835 grams. Total weight gain: 39 grams



Lorena - 94 days, 1172 grams. Total weight gain: 135 grams



Ginger - 82 days, 502 grams. Total weight gain: 25 grams



Jessicca - 88 days, 505 grams. Total weight gain: 2 grams


Every year I am surprised at how different each female develops. I don't understand how one gains 180 grams, and another gains 20 grams, yet they both have nice healthy litters. In general, the smaller females have smaller babies, but not really smaller litters. Lorena is just a beast. She has the biggest litters AND the biggest babies. They also grow extremely fast. If I can find time I will try to make threads on my other gravid skinks too.

The female in the 3rd pic looks like its ready to blow! Do they still act normal as usual when they are that big or do they tend to hide more? And do they still eat as usual or do they go off feed?

nice jeff,some nice variety,some of the small weight gainers looked solid to begin with,but it is odd how some ballon and others dont yet can have similar litters,looks like a good start to baby season for you there,fingers crossed on the other specimens to

Hey Jess! An update on your skinks is WAYYYY over due! I hope everything is going well for Hippo and the crew. I would love to hear how it's going.

As far as the girls go, this weekend, four of them hit the number of days they were gravid last year. I was expecting at least ONE of them to pop, but as of right now, NONE have. I am actually happy that they are all going full term this year, but it is still very hard to wait. At least I have two eastern babies to play with!

ML, you have been told before that Lorena and Bruno are the same skink! I had to change Bruno's name to a girl name because it was causing too much confusion during my communications with people buying my babies. For example, people freaked out when I told them, "This litter was produced by Phil & Bruno".

I'm really disappointed that you don't remember this. You seem to remember EVERYTHING else ever said on the forum. I think I am going to suggest that you lose a star or two for this at the next moderator meeting.

Hey Jeff,

Looks like all your hard work is paying off. You have some lovely looking females. Its getting hard to find good quality pure intermedia in Europe now. I REALLY hope to have two litters of these myself. My 16 weeks is up in mid-June.
