Quail Eggs

I have actually found a local source of quail eggs! And living in Milwaukee Wisconsin - finding someone close was a shock.

I was wondering if there is anyone else who has fed their BTS these, and if I should be aware of any possible pitfalls (i.e., egg getting caught in throat)

I believe that someone did bring this up recently (again, I would attach the link but I don't know how )
I think that the answer was that yes people do often feed them to thier skink, but I would double check

i wouldnt feed it as a staple,maybe a treat every now and then,also if in raw form,would be messy if bluey gave it the snail shell crush treatment

Thanks for the input - I see that some give crushed egg shells (for the calcium) and just thought it would be nice for Skeeter to experience the "wild food" his brothers eat.

Since the topic of calcium came up...I have been told by a couple of pet store people who are somewhat knowledgeable, but I always like to verify - that lizards don't need the calcium when they reach adulthood. Do these people deserve a somewhat gentle rap on the head for saying so?

oh, forgot to say, that I would feed the egg on a paperplate to avoid the mess - or feed outside the enclosure (perhaps outside when the weather warms up - if that ever happens)

adults still need calcium,though in smaller amounts i guess,juvies require more because of there rapid growth,also with adults,if a females gravid,she will need alot of calcium for the developing babies,as they draw there nutrients from mum,so if not supplied u can get weaker babies more prone to mbd,also if they deplete mum,she can become affected to,even adult males need it,as they can still get mbd after making it to adult size in great shape,just that they wont need as much as growing ones or gravid ones to maintain there calcium levels,but still need it


they love to crawl through there food,i only used egg outdoors and the buggers would get covered in it,its no biggy though,just more mess to clean,including them,lol,they do it to any food to and water or even food to water,lol

Never used quail eggs but had two female doves that layed frequently and fed these. It is messy but they were greatly enjoyed. I'd suggest them as treats.
