I am not a total newby.... but after 30 years without a BTS, I just got one this week. He came from a very small enclosure and a person who wasn't sure how to care for him. "Roxy" has been with me for 48 hours and apart from one bite of an egg, we haven't seen him (my kids say he looks like a boy) eat anything. Should I be concerned? Is this just a settling in period? Any information would help?
He is 25 cms long and not sure of the age.
I have him in an aquarium that is 4ft x 1 1/2 ft x 1 1/2 feet in size. I have coir substrate, a few hides, climbing structures and a water bowl in the tank. I also have a 75w heat lamp at one end.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Re: New member
Welcome! There's a great FAQ section within this thread, it has a very informative article about what to expect when you bring a new skink home. Please check it out, it will answer your question. If you have any questions that can't be answered by the FAQ section, the care sheet or doing a quick search of old thread topics then feel free to make a thread about it.

Re: New member
as alioop said, take a good look at the caresheets and the feeding chart to be on the safe side
if he is around 25 cm you can assume he is below two years of age, id guess one year at the most but that can depend greatly on how theyre fed and which sort and also the individual growth of the animal.
its totally okay that your skink is hiding. he is getting used to his new environment and probably needs a week or two to settle in (without handling). unless of course he suddenly craves attention (then its up to you). that he even dared to taste test the egg so quick is a good sign
make sure the temps are right though. you should have a warm basking spot at 35-37 C, a warm side of around 30C and a cold side of the tank at around 25 C.
he will position himself in the tank after his own heat preferences
offer food as regular and fresh water, and he will soon be the best bluey ever.

Welcome to the Forum, Tania!
I think Alie and Linnea have answered most of your questions, if you have any concerns feel free to ask more or otherwise just post some pictures when Roxy is settled in. Everything sounds very normal so far, so no need to be concerned.

Thanks
Thanks everyone.....
I have read through so much on this site now.... feel much happier. Roxy has still not eaten but is moving around, exploring, basking and doing everything else fine. Even saw him drinking this morning.
Will post some picks when he is out of his hide.
Thanks again.

Congrats on your new baby and welcme to the forum!
Mine didn't eat until he'd been with me for an entire month! He's been a good eater since then though.
